As it is said, the devil is in the details...and the Detail Views in Inventor Publisher 2012 are dandy little devils (wow, got to love the alliteration of that sentence). Detail views have been in Inventor Publisher since the R1 2011 release. But man, oh man, did we pack some power in the detail view functionality with the 2012 release.
The main thing to understand is that the Detail View functionality in Publisher essentially creates a 'sub canvas' (my own terminology).
With this 'sub canvas', a new door of options are available to add all kinds of flair to your detail views. So, here are some of the tools I am talking about:
Scale - Will scale the Detail View. This can provide a more desired result than simply resizing the Detail View itself.
Sync - Will force an update of the Detail View based on any changes to the model and/or snapshot.
Lock Focal - Will update the Detail View if leader is moved to another location on the model. By default, Detail views will not change if leader is moved from initial location.
Associate - Automates the Sync functionality of Detail Views.
Pin to Screen - Pins the Detail view to it's current position on the canvas. When rotating the model, the Detail View stays fixed.
All of these tools can be accessed from the 'Annotation' panel on the Ribbon toolbar, or from the glyph in the grahic area that pops up with the Detail View is selected.
By double clicking on the Detail View, you can access that 'sub canvas' I had mentioned earlier. Here you can start making your Detail View an action packed, information spewing view for all your friends and family to enjoy. Detail Views can have their own Annotation Style, Balloons, View settings, Dimensions, etc. Not to mention, you can isolate components and remove any clutter from your Detail View.
Once you've added all your goodness to your Detail View, you simply have to hit the Return arrow on the Ribbon Toolbar or in the bottom right of the canvas to go back to the main Publisher canvas environment.
Detail Views are all about highlighting a specific portion of your design. With Inventor Publisher 2012, you can leverage the Detail View functionality to do just that...and more.
